Here's how NOT to do it...
If you want effective local advertising, use your local media. Honestly.

Below are examples of twelve businesses that used Facebook's targeted ads function to place their own advertising. Now, I don't know if these businesses set up their targeting wrong, but a couple of them that I talked to had the targets set up for just their surrounding towns. So Facebook is most likely serving up their ads to anyone, anywhere, and charging them for the impressions!

So let's get real. I'd love for you to do business with me at KELY so we can keep Ely's original radio station up and running for another 74 years, but if you don't, do business with Karen at KDSS, or Teresa at the Bristlecone Tribune. Local media needs your support, and Mark Zuckerberg and his crew constantly prove that when it comes to money, they don't care about you or your advertising dollars.

Wyatt

See all these ads below the break that Facebook served me today, March 5, 2024

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Yes, you have to have a restaurant and bar, but this slap in the face of people who actually invested in our community by a couple of locals who are better than you will have additional unintended consequences. In a community that continues to lose population year after year, who’s going to work there? We just lost another restaurant in Ely with the closing of the Cellblock, EmployNV tells us there are over a hundred jobs available including postal, sheriff's office, and the prison. If we can’t fill those good-paying jobs, how do we propose to fill lower-paying jobs? Opinions mine, not necessarily those of the station, management, or sponsors...but they ought to be.

Opposing opinions are welcome.
Wyatthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10565550151217988943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3955543389605752374.post-14768490453547640562023-11-19T11:20:00.001-08:002023-11-19T11:22:15.570-08:00The killing of a president - 60 years later.
Over the years, I've viewed myself as being many things. Journalist, analyst, historian. Each November, I look back at the coverage of the assassination of President Kennedy, the first killing of a president in the age of electronic media. Thanks to a YouTuber by the name of David Von Pein we have some of that day as viewed and heard on Television and Radio on that fateful day.

Sixty years later, I marvel at the intellect and dignity that so many newsrooms, even third-tier ABC, displayed in the reporting of the news. But none so blatant and illegal as the incident in the tiny hamlet of Marion, Kansas.

The tiny community of just over 1900 in a county (Marion county) of 11,000 is the center of governmental overreach in suppression of the First Amendment. It is a convoluted story that requires some understanding.

It appears to be a case of good old boys trying to protect friends.

A reporter for the Record was trespassed from a public forum with local politicians held at Kari’s Kitchen, owned by 46 year old Kari Newell. The local businesswoman accused the Marion County Record of getting information on her 2008 DUI case illegally (which is public information) which would prevent her from getting a liquor license. The paper had investigated the DUI, but did not publish a story.

Newell’s demands managed to get a search warrant, which not only disrupted the operations of the newspaper, but the raid on the home of 98 year old co-owner Joan Meyer was so stressful that she passed away the next day. The raid, headed by Marion Police Chief Gideon Cody, is also tainted by the revelation that the chief was being investigated by the paper on charges of Sexual Misconduct. Cody had been with the Kansas City Police Department but left following allegations of Sexual Misconduct. He was hired as Chief of the Marion County Police Department in late April. Marion City Vice Mayor Ruth Herbel also had her home raided as a part of this sham warrant and her 88 year old disabled husband, who suffers from dementia, was likewise traumatized by the raid.

This is America?

This is the making of a mini-series, but it shows people the extremes of suppression that newsrooms and publishers face every day.

Former editor of the Ely Times Kent Harper and I discussed how people would contact us threatening us to not report stories of their family members being involved in criminal activity. Sheriff Scott Henriod has told me of people demanding their family members not be published in the Sheriff’s Blotter Report. People trying to suppress public information.

Business owners take out their frustration against publishers by using the power of the purse strings and refusing to advertise. That is their right. But it hurts our efforts to bring you the news and information you need. Unlike Social Media, we vet and investigate stories, not just reporting rumors. I’ve held off on reporting stories for days until I could get complete verification and the ENTIRE story, just not rumors.

Local media is the heart of a community. It is under attack by people and businesses who disagree with the news - the truth - reported by local media. Without the truth, corruption grows unchecked, and communities are subject to the “Golden Rule” - they who have the gold, make the rules.

Only by electing responsible people to office can we continue to hold on to our rights. All politics are local. Unless we insist our elected officials operate under our laws, we will see our country erode from the inside. It is a price our Republic cannot stand.

Wyatthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10565550151217988943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3955543389605752374.post-87617084872082268072023-08-16T06:30:00.002-07:002023-08-16T06:30:36.663-07:00and yes, I SIGNED this post!
Everyone has the right to their opinion.

But like our Founding Fathers, they have the responsibility to stand up for them by signing their name to them, rather than hiding behind the safe anonymity of the Interwebs.

And no, I'm not going to roll out their novel of a domain name. (Our late CEO Fred Weinberg would always buy those long web domains like dontcaliforniaournevada or other similar page names taking shots at Harry Reid and Dean Heller. Remembering TheWhitePineCountyCommissionIsABunchOfCrooks dot cam may be cute and accurate, but only accomplishes the purpose of being a vanity project. Like the authors of the Constitution, I sign my name to them. Every day on the radio I sign my name to what I say. (And don't think I'm taking up for the commission. Why do you think the White Pine County Commission Theme Song is Fleetwood Mac's Little Lies?) To me and others, anonymous opinions hold little weight. When you sign your name to them, it matters. I've taken the heat, our stations have taken the heat (why do you think that Bath Lumber and FNB Ely refuse to advertise?) and I take something that YOU demand of Government. Ethical Accountability. Vote with your wallet and cut the cord!

OK, I’ve been listen to all the hosts talking about DEMANDING that DirecTV put Newsmax back into their lineup. I understand the demand. Most of these hosts have Newsmax as sponsors. But it amazes
me that so many free-market Conservatives are making this sort of demand. It’s better handled by voting with your feet.

And people are doing just that. Variety magazine reports DirecTV lost about 400,000 subscribers in the third quarter of 2022, to stand at an estimated 13.5 million customers, per Leichtman Research Group.
At the end of the third quarter of 2015, five weeks after AT&T purchased DirecTV, the company had had 25.47 million subscribers — 19.57 million from DirecTV and 5.9 million from U-verse. They’re losing paying
subscribers, and they will continue to lose subscribers.

Why? People are cutting the cable and installing over-the-air TV antennas and streaming devices. Which is exactly what I did a year ago when DirecTV pulled the plug on One America Network. And in the process
saved almost $200 a month.

The first thing I did is get a Roku device. If you have a TV set built in the last ten years it most likely has an HDMI port. Plug the Roku into the port and follow the instructions to connect it to your
WiFi network. Then add channels to your hearts content, including Newsmax.

But there are tons of FREE Entertainment choices, including the Roku Channel, already installed. You can also get free local news channels from NewsOn, Fox5 Vegas, ABC 13 Las Vegas, and Fox 13 Slat Lake
City. Also free movies from Xumo, Stirr, Amazon’s Freevee, and Tubi, and loads of free live streaming channels from Pluto TV. Apart from having YouTube on my big screen TV, my favorite is the Stream on a Budget Showcase
channel, a curated collection of video and audio content, including the ABN Old Time Radio channel.

Want your familiar cable channels. They’re available through Sling TV. Starting at $40 a month for basic packages. FX, Fox Sports, NFL Network, College Sports, TBS, TNT, USA, Syfy, and a whole lot
more.

Yes, other paid streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Peacock, Hulu, Amazon, all are available through Roku.

Roku devices start at under $30 and run up to $100 for the premium unit with a soundbar to give you much better sound than your TV will in most cases. Available through Roku’s website or at Walmart.

And if you want to replace your television while you’re at it, Walmart has a variety of televisions with Roku built in from ONN, Hisense, and Philips. At this writing, the ONN 32 inch Roku TV is under
$100.

Screw DirecTV. Cut the cable, install an antenna for local channels, and connect to Roku for all the channels you can eat.Or watch.

Everybody complains about the time change, but nobody does anything about it.

Here, seriously, is the argument for Daylight SAVING (not Savings) time.

Some of you may remember back in the 70’s Energy Crisis days the US went to year round Daylight Saving Time for a while. After all, if it was good enough for America during World War II, it was good
enough for today. Well, it went over like a lead balloon with many people, particularly parents who weren’t happy that their kids were going to school in the dark. Here in Ely Nevada in December is 7:00am Pacific Standard
Time. That would be an hour later at 8:00am Pacific Daylight Time. All to get a 5:45pm Sunset and more daylight later in the day. Those AM Radio stations that can’t sign on until sunrise would also be screwed out
of morning drive time by not being allowed to sign on until 8:00AM!

OK, you say. So just stay on Standard Time year around. Do you really want the sun waking you up at 4:15 in the morning in June? And that you’d only have sunshine until 7pm>

Granted that “time” is in many ways an artificial construct, but it’s a topic that makes everyone unhappy one way or another. Pick one, pick the other. Change or don’t change. Either
way no one will be happy.

But then, that’s the way it is these days, isn’t it. Ain’t no one happy.

And a public service program explaining CONELRAD to the general public. Though unwieldy for broadcasters and somewhat confusing to the public, the 640-1240 scheme of CONELRAD thankfully never had to be used as it gave way to the Emergency Broadcast System, and the current Emergency Alert System.

Wyatthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10565550151217988943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3955543389605752374.post-90274755171951837982021-08-11T10:27:00.003-07:002021-08-11T10:29:33.022-07:00Forget the Vaccine, worry about DHMO!
Shocking new statistics show that more people have died as a result of Dihydrogen Monoxide than have died from the COVID-19 vaccine.

Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is perhaps the single most prevalent of all chemicals that can be dangerous to human life. Despite this truth, most people are not unduly concerned about the dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide. Governments, civic leaders, corporations, military organizations, and citizens in every walk of life seem to either be ignorant of or shrug off the truth about Dihydrogen Monoxide as not applying to them. This should be of more concern to the American public than the COVID vaccine.

Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year.
What are the dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide?
Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting, and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Dihydrogen monoxide is also known as hydric acid and is the major component of acid rain. It contributes to the Greenhouse Effect, may cause severe burns, contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape, accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals, may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes, and has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. In the midwest alone DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used as an industrial solvent and coolant, in nuclear power plants, in the production of styrofoam, as a fire retardant, in many forms of cruel animal research, as an additive in certain junk foods and other food products, and the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical!

Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal.

You most likely have a product continuing a component of DHMO close to you right now.

Because Dihydrogen Monoxide, H2O, is water.

Think about that before you go off on a rant against the COVID-19 vaccine.

More people have died from overdoses of Salicylic Acid than the COVID-19 vaccine. A good friend almost died from a single dose of Salicylic Acid. Because she was allergic to ASPIRIN. Water, Aspirin, any drug, any food could kill you. The only way to avoid dying?

Stop eating

Stop drinking.

Stop breathing.

Life is a risk. If you take no risks, you stop living.

Think about it. Live your life and don’t be scared. Most importantly, protect yourself.

Wyatthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10565550151217988943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3955543389605752374.post-45661048475060344022021-03-05T21:48:00.005-08:002021-03-05T21:48:50.198-08:00A New Newspaper in Ely? What are you smoking, George?
When I moved to Ely in 2008, I found a vibrant business community. While it was obvious that the community had seen better times, there was opportunity for Ely to improve and grow. The Ely Times and KDSS had active offices and KELY, recovering from a significant period after the AM and the FM KCLS were sold to different owners and KCLS moved first to Pioche and then to St George, Utah.

And just like that, Ely went from four media outlets to three.

Then Valley Broadcasting sold off co-owned KVNV-TV, being operated as a repeater of their Las Vegas Channel 3, to PMCM-TV. There was a minor attempt to operate the station as an Ely television station, but it was short term as PMCM planned to move the station to New Jersey using some ancient FCC laws. They succeeded.

The Ely Times was a vibrant concern when I moved here. Ken Kliewer and Kent Harper produced a quality newspaper. Until the paper was sold by the Las Vegas Review Journal, Ken Kliewer retired, Kent Harper moved to the RJ’s Mesquite property before he retired. Apart from a short run under the tutelage of Rudy Herndon, the paper hasn’t been the same since.

When I first ran KELY from 2008 until 2011 I did six daily newscasts, aired City Council meetings on a same day delay, and until advertisers decided they thought it was too expensive, broadcast Bobcat Football and men’s and women’s basketball. The expenses all came out of my own pocket, and I usually rode with the sports teams on the buses. Then the owner’s partner, upset with the expenses, cut my salary and commissions to unviable levels. I opted to exit temporarily the business and open whitepinenews.com. I closed the web site after several people went to my employers and threatened them.

If it hadn’t been for Floyd Brown and Fred Weinberg purchasing the USA Radio Network and hiring me to be the host of Classic Radio Theater, and to keep KELY running with Ken Kliewer hosting the morning show from 8 to 9am, I don’t know what would have happened to this radio station. To be honest, Classic Radio Theater has had to be my focus. In the past five years, we’ve put over 50 radio stations onto Classic Radio Theater from Boston to Anchorage to Florida to Dallas to Alturas CA to Atlantic City and dozens of stations in between. Since Ken Kliewer retired a year ago, I took over doing two hours locally every morning in addition to my three hour national show.

Local input has been a challenge. Every week White Pine County Sheriff Scott Henroid has been on the air, even after the newspaper dropped his weekly column. Every week Cozette Eldridge has been on our station, even after the newspaper dropped her weekly senior news from RSVP. Every Friday a member of the White Pine Ministerial Association has supplied spiritual commentary.

But other members of Government have been disappointments. Ely Mayor Nathan Robertson came in for a while at the start of the pandemic but eventually stopped. The County Health officer made a few appearances but he eventually stopped. And not a single member of the White Pine County Commission feels it important to talk to the community through our station. (That in and of itself is nothing new.) Even our head of the Tourism and Recreation board hasn’t come back on since the pandemic began.

Local advertising has been a struggle. If it wasn’t for advertising on our affiliated stations, we would be struggling more than we are. Advertisers from Reno, Carson City, Dayton, Genoa, Virginia City, and Hawthorne, pick up the slack where Ely businesses have let you down.

Media is not inexpensive to operate properly. And businesses and consumers of media are being seduced by “free” Social media.

Except Social Media can and does limit your reach dramatically unless you advertise with them. And all you REALLY get through Social Media is opinion, not news. And it’s decidedly left leaning opinion. All you have to do is look at the last year to realize that Facebook is NOT the place to get your news. If Markie Zuckerberg decides your opinions aren’t leftist enough for him, you’re censored.

So when former Mayor George Chachas continues to rant about the City or County needing to “bring another newspaper” in here, who? Newspapers across Rural Nevada have closed. All you have left is a newspaper that’s a shell of it’s former self...and us.

And when I retire in 2024 or 2025, there are no bets what happens here then. Better embrace your remaining local media and support them while you can.
Wyatthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10565550151217988943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3955543389605752374.post-59259264768804389472021-02-17T16:31:00.000-08:002021-03-08T11:35:24.113-08:00"Foreign Bride" websites not Human Trafficking but Human Fleecing
Originally broadcast in 2015, but still very relevant today.

Back in 2011 I became increasingly frustrated with a number of late night commercials on ESPN promoting a Russian Dating website. Tiring already of the pending coronation of King Obama II, I decided to embark on a definitely not-political piece. What I found was stunning. And life changing.

The website, named in part after the daughter of Russian Tsar Nicholas II (Or for those of you less historically inclined, the name of a 1997 Gary Goldman/Meg Ryan movie) claims to be “one of the first companies to develop a platform designed to connect people from around the world and it remains at the forefront of its field, continually developing improved communication technologies that allow people to discover and enjoy the possibilities of an exciting, globally-interconnected future. The site now has over 20 million members, more than 80 million visitors annually and 1.5 million+ messages exchanged daily.”

It’s that last claim that indicates they’re either exaggerating or ripping people off immensely.

Because on that site you have to spend 10 “credits” to exchange a message. How much is a “credit”? It depends on how many you buy. Buy 20 credits and that sets you back $16, or 80 cents each. But if you’re willing to buy a thousand credits, they’ll cost just 40 cents each...$400.

So to just exchange a message with someone on their website, the cost is a minimum of $4. By those numbers, that's over a half million dollars A DAY.

Chatting? One credit per minute for text chat, two credits for chat with one way video, or six credits per minute for two way camera chat. Note that this company (With offices in Malta, Cyprus, Seychelles, and New York City) uses the same pricing structure for their Asian, Latin American, African and Middle Eastern websites.

And here’s the kicker. Exchanging contact information is verboten. To directly contact the purported love of your life, you have to fill out a form purporting to ensure compliance with International Marriage Broker Regulation Act and pay a fee for “processing” before they’ll give you direct contact information. We tested this out on two smaller websites with lower prices, spent around $100 in two separate cases, completed the “IMBRA” processing, and got back only mail.ru email addresses. Now, mail.ru is like Hotmail or Gmail here. Once direct contact was attempted, the persons disappeared.

In other words, you're less likely to have direct access to anyone on one of those big commercial Foreign Dating sites than the Ashley Madison suckers. You spend money on a foreign bride website hoping to meet the woman of your dreams, and you are throwing money down a rat hole. They are no more reliable and no more authentic then the old FriendFinder family of websites used to be. They are a scam, not for the brides, but for the men who are lonely and seeking friendship, companionship, and that perfect person to be with forever.

Anyone who alleges that these ripoff Foreign Bride websites (one or more of which will probably end up on this page thanks to Google Adsense) lead to Human Trafficking also believe that the consumption of A&W Root Beer leads to Alcoholism.

And lest we think that IMBRA does a damned bit of good note that in neither of the cases used to justify IMBRA would have been impacted had the law been in place at the time.

So where do you find a reliable honest woman. That's an easy question with a hard answer. Look on Facebook, because there are a multitude of groups that are set up with people looking for foreign brides, and other foreign brides looking for decent men. So if my critics want to try to give somebody grief, what about Facebook? You want to say I engage in human trafficking because I brought my wife from a foreign country who I met on the chatroom of a free web site? Then why not shut down Facebook. You morons.

But then, my critics can't differentiate between my LEGAL immigrant wife and ILLEGAL immigrants and need a saline and vinegar enema to clean out their heads.

We were considered one of the poorest counties in the United States. In April 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson and his entourage of staff, secret service, media, and other politicians swarmed into the county seat of Inez during his war on a poverty campaign tour.

Johnson and the entourage rode through our town waving and then proceeded on down route 3, which was less than three miles north of my homeplace. He walked onto the porch of a local family where he did a photo session that would be shown on every media source around the world. I just watched it on YouTube. He then returned to his Cadillac, came back through Inez, and shook a few hands at the courthouse before he boarded his helicopter and left us. He had what he needed which were real pictures of real poverty and a story of real poverty from the hills of East, Kentucky. There was nothing about Johnson's visit that communicated anything about the white privilege of East, Kentucky. We had never heard of white privilege. We hadn't thought much about privilege or poverty either. I don't think too many of us thought we were poor. We didn't know the difference really. We didn't have anybody telling us that we should be demanding equity with others in the country.

After Johnson flew out, we resumed our normal lifestyles. The family pictured in the photo op continued to have a very difficult life of poverty. Even though they had the President of the United States on their front porch it wasn't enough to save them from lives of poverty and difficult times. President Johnson's intentions were good. He led Congress to pass the Economic Opportunity Act in August 1964 which was part of his war on poverty effort. It was a nice gesture.

Unfortunately, families throughout Martin county and East, Kentucky still grappled with poverty after the government money and new programs were approved. Common life continued to be living without indoor plumbing. For many people, this meant a very difficult life of finding alternative ways to access water. Some people had outdoor wells. They would drop a bailer bucket into a well and "draw" up a bucket of water. Several of my family members had wells of this nature and I remember their water tasting pretty good. This also meant many families did not have indoor bathrooms. Going to the bathroom meant going outside to a tiny little building built over a hole in the ground. In the winter, trudging snow to go to the bathroom at any hour of the day was cruel. This also meant taking a bath by collecting water from the well and carrying it into the house which involved a lot of carrying if you were going to take a bath. The same process occurred when washing clothes. Enough water had to be collected to wash and then rinse the clothes. This was a massive job. Does this sound like white privilege?

By the time I was born, my family had indoor plumbing and we had one bathroom. We still had an outdoor toilet that sat out from the house in the back yard. I tore it down a couple of years back. Actually, it was hard to tear it down because I knew it symbolized a very different era of life which too many of us Appalachian people are all too familiar.

We had terrible water as a kid. It was really bad to drink and terrible for washing clothes. The sulfur in the water would ruin our clothes. This meant my mother was always catching rainwater in large tubs outside the house. In dry weather when I was a child we would walk to the creek and carry water back to the house one bucket at a time. That always embarrassed me as a kid. I don't know why. Most of the people up and down the creek where I lived had to do the same thing plus many of these people did not have indoor plumbing either. Does this sound like white privilege?

When school was in session at my elementary called Tomahawk, I sat with classmates every day who came to school hungry. The free school lunch program was the only decent meal they ever got to eat. Several boys in our school who did not have indoor plumbing came to school dirty but would often stand in the school bathroom washing their hands and faces before class. I'm sure some girls did the same thing Our little elementary school bathroom was a luxury to them. Does this sound like white privilege?

I hear all this talk about white privilege. Growing up in an inner-city dwelling is surely filled with hardships but these dwellers at least have access to a real kitchen, running water, an indoor bathroom, and even television and radio reception. These are luxuries that many Appalachian kids did not have growing up. Even today, in too many places in East, Kentucky and throughout Appalachia there are still families growing up without indoor bathrooms, access to water, and surviving daily hunger. Internet cannot be found in too many Appalachian areas. These are the scenarios that have become ignored by the media, government, and employers. Thank God it's not even close to what it once was but I've been in the hollers of the mountains and seen enough to know poverty is still real and cruel existence.

Today, 14 of the 50 poorest counties in the United States are all from the same East Kentucky region that Johnson visited in 1964. For Martin county, "The per capita income is just over $18,000," according to the 2019 Census reporter. Twenty-six (26.3) percent of the county is still at the poverty level according to Data USA with a median household income of $35,125. The county is 99 percent white. Does this sound like a place of white privilege? McCreary County is located in the Daniel Boone National Forest in southern Kentucky along the Tennessee state border. The only county nationwide where most households earn less than $20,000 a year, McCreary is the poorest county in both Kentucky and the United States. The life expectancy is just 73. (USA Today) Does this sound like white privilege? The Washington Post reported that the life expectancy for the 5th district in Eastern, Kentucky is under 73 making it the shortest life span expectancy in the United States. Owsley County Kentucky's life span expectancy has been reported to be 67.3 years while in San Jose, California the life expectancy is 83.

The white privilege I enjoyed as a kid was that I was fortunate to be raised around hard-working people. My dad spent four hours a day driving to and from Holden, West Virginia to work in an underground coal mine. He spent over 30 years stooped over, on his knees, or on his back in a dark coal mine. He made a living until at the age of 55 his health started failing him and he had to quit. He and my mother kept food on the table. We raised a garden. We had livestock. My family worked hard. My uncles and aunts farmed and worked whatever jobs they could find to make ends meet. My grandfather and grandmother Hinkle worked in a very small grocery store six days a week until he was 83 and she was 80. They worked hard until they died. No one had unemployment checks rolling in. No one had Social Security Disability checks. No one was receiving stimulus checks. There weren't food stamps or other federal or state money available to help anyone out. Our family had a mindset to work because that was our only means of surviving.

I have never experienced anything like what some of my American friends have experienced growing up. Or, what some still experience. I'm certainly not intending to belittle your experiences or trying to "one-up you" on who was poorer or had it harder. I did all I could to clean up the audio but I think you'll get the drift. What can be asked in a casual setting is one thing. But in a job interview setting? And where was the new City Attorney?

For Nevada Governor the choice is easy. Dan Schwartz knows his stuff. The former State Treasurer has done a great job in getting our economic house in order. As a businessman he knows what our state's businesses need. And Dan is not in the pocket of the elitists like another big name is.

For Lieutenant Governor it's another easy call. Scott LaFata is a solidly grounded Conservative Republican who, unlike his Establishment opponent, opposes the largest tax increase in history that his opponent pushed through the legislature.

For United States Senate I find a lot of good things in what Sarah Gazala says not only on her website, but what she said when I interviewed her. It's not often that a candidate talks to me with such courage and conviction that I decide that they deserve my vote. Sarah did just that.

In Congressional District 4 we don't need to put back into office a Never Trumper who is insulting to disabled children. There are several good candidates but I have to give the nod to Jeff Miller, who is running probably the best totally grass roots campaign out there. Jeff is a solid Conservative and Second Amendment supporter that deserves your vote

In Congressional District 2, I have no issue with Mark Amodei but Sharron Angle has been a solid Conservative for a very long time and fought for this state. I believe in Sharron, but either candidate is a solid choice.

For Attorney General, your mailbox has been filled with junk mail from a candidate who is desperate for your vote, but for me it was an easy vote for Craig Mueller, We need a veteran in this office who understands the law and is willing to do what is necessary to re-establish our state's sovereignty.

Unlike Thomas Mitchell, Sherm Fredericks, the NRA or other Swampsters, these six are solid Conservatives who not only support our president 100%, they are not beholding to special interests. And unlike others, I give you links to these candidate's websites so you can see why I support them.

Most importantly, get out and vote now.Wyatthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10565550151217988943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3955543389605752374.post-17023036637996282672018-05-01T06:15:00.001-07:002018-05-01T06:15:55.961-07:00Brother, can you spare a click?

CNN's Brian Stelter's article claiming mass firings at Salem Media's RedState website were a result of pro-Trump bias are foolish and inaccurate. In fact, if you want to look at a culprit, look no further than where you most likely found a link to this story, Facebook.

Mark Zuckerberg's Jihad against Conservatism has already claimed a number of small publishers, who just few short months ago found lots of traffic from the social media site. In 2015 and 2016 many sites published Conservative news stories that were ignored by the Lamestream media. Those publishers did well financially and a Red wave saw majorities elected in the House and Senate, and saw the improbable election of President Trump.

But now, facing claims of "Russian collusion," the lefties at Facebook have rigged the game so that anything from a site that they deem right-of-center gets pushed down and many times won't get seen at all. This jiggering of the game has cost hundreds if not thousands of jobs in Conservative media. All because Facebook wants to be Mainstream media and be accepted by the hacks at CNN, NBC, etc etc.

Without a level playing field, Facebook will no longer be the revenue machine it has been for so many small publishers. Now for a larger publisher like Salem, they too are feeling the pinch of dramatically reduced traffic. Until a Conservative alternative to Facebook comes along, getting the word out to even the Conservative faithful will be problematic.
Where's Tom at MySpace when you need him?
Wyatthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10565550151217988943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3955543389605752374.post-17800696429569645662016-11-05T06:28:00.001-07:002016-11-05T06:28:18.593-07:00Amazon's new policy makes Reviewers look like LiarsFor some time a few vendors on Amazon offered products at a reduced rate in exchange for an honest review. It was a policy that some people, myself included, took advantage of to get items we already knew were good at a discount.

It is now a policy that is prohibited. And not only that, you're forbidden to talk about the policy on Amazon.

This policy is what comes out of the north end of a southbound Bull.

When my Amazon Prime account (That I got free from Perk) expires, I will not renew it. More and more there are better sites to shop than Amazon, and I will go there in the future.

But given that Shopko has delivery of items not in stock to their store, perhaps Amazon will be replaced by a brick-and-mortar store.

Ironic, isn't it?Wyatthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10565550151217988943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3955543389605752374.post-75287514072708142302016-07-02T09:30:00.001-07:002018-05-31T10:58:22.141-07:00County Commission puts Hatred of city over Public Safety; City calls County's bluffThe White Pine County Commission hates the City of Ely. For two years they have called for the disincorporation of the City. Now, after taking six months of an interim Interlocal Agreement for Fire protection designed to come up with a permanent agreement and letting it expire, the City told it's Fire Department not to respond as a first responder outside the city limits of Ely. The lack of action by the County have, in effect, put the City in a no-win situation, and at the same time put the people who live south of Ely in jeopardy.

The house organ of the Powers that Be, your Ely Times, published a story that tries to make the City of Ely, who is doing the right thing to protect the City's Volunteers, Employees, and Assets by making this tough decision. It places ZERO responsibility on the County Commission, of which four of it's members have called for the disincorporation of the City of Ely. One member, a recent convert to appearing reasonable because he's facing re-election, tried to kick the can past the election to no avail.

Your White Pine County Commissioners have overspent collections by $3.5 million dollars in the last five years. They are NOT responsible stewards of YOUR TAX DOLLARS. Lest we remind you taxpayers that the residents of the County do not pay Ely City Taxes on their property. They CHOSE that. Back when the County was trying to hold up the City on Police protection most of you didn't bitch about that. And let's make it clear. It was the COUNTY that said they don't need the city. So contact your commissioners and bitch at THEM! But four of those goofballs can't make change out of a dollar and make it come out right.

The White Pine County Commission is an embarrassment.

Rather than take any time to consider a more permanent Interlocal Agreement between the County and the City of Ely, the Commission tabled consideration of the agreement, essentially letting the agreement expire. The City responded by saying with no Interlocal agreement, they would not be the first responder to any Fire or Ambulance calls in the County.

Now understand, the County refused to negotiate with the City. The chairman of the County Commission, Gary Pariah -- er, Perea, has repeatedly said that the County doesn't NEED the City. Four of the Five members of the County Commission have called for the Disincorporation of the City of Ely (So they can get their greedy hands on the City's revenues and assets).

And yet, the City is the bad guy??? WTF idiots. Your County Commission doesn't want to do business with the City of Ely...except when they charge them for "Police Protection". (In White Pine County the only protection you have is your Second Amendment rights, no matter how good Dan Watts and his officers are!)

When you get off your collective White Pine County asses and put reformers in office that aren't beholding to the Big Banker and the other Special Interests, THEN you'll see changes.
